The rules of Deathproof CrossFit

A short list. Most of it is common sense, a couple of them exist because someone made us write them.

Rules of the box

  1. No whining

Whatever it is, it's probably tough. That doesn't mean anyone else wants to hear about it. We come here because it's hard, not in spite of it.

  2. No gum in the gym

You're a grown adult. Finding it stuck to the floor, the rig or the back of a weight stack does nothing for anyone's health. Honestly, we can't believe we have to write this one down.

  3. Put it away when you're done

Every bar, plate, ball, band and box goes back where you found it. The next class shouldn't have to clean up after yours.

  4. Stack weights neatly

Not because we're neat freaks. Because badly stacked plates fall over, and falling plates hurt people.

  5. Write down your score

Every time. Your numbers are how we both know you're improving, and they tell the coach what to change.

  6. Cheer each other on

The last person still working needs the noise more than anyone. Be generous with your encouragement. You'll want it back one day.

  7. Don't ghost the kettlebells

Don't let go of a kettlebell overhead and let it crash. They bounce in ways nobody can predict and they will find an ankle.

  8. Leave the coaching to the coaches

We love that you want your friends to get better. Let the coach do the correcting, and do your cheering instead.

  9. Go after your weaknesses

Don't skip the workouts you hate. Those are the ones pointing at exactly what needs fixing.

  10. Pay on time

We've got bills and wages like everyone else. If your membership isn't paid, the visit gets charged at the drop-in rate. You wouldn't walk out of a drive-thru with a burger on credit.

  11. Swear if you need to, never at people

The odd expletive mid-workout is fine. Aiming abuse at another athlete or a coach isn't, ever. That one's a zero tolerance thing.

Why rules at all?

Because a gym full of moving barbells, flying sweat and tired people needs a little discipline to stay safe and fun. These rules keep the floor clear, the gear in good shape and the vibe somewhere you actually want to be at 5am.

New here?

Don't stress about memorizing all of it. Your coach will walk you through how things work in your first class. The FAQ covers what to bring and what to expect.
