Get strong enough to walk away from the bad day
Deathproof CrossFit is a coached CrossFit gym in Columbus, Indiana. Small classes, real technique, and a crew that shows up for each other at 5am. Whatever shape you're in right now, we'll meet you there.
Why the name
The gym opened in March 2013 as CrossFit Retaliation. In November 2015 head coach Jase Robinson was riding his motorcycle down U.S. 31 at about 55 mph when a truck pulled out in front of him. He was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and nobody was sure he'd make it.
His pelvis didn't break. Four days later he walked back into the gym.
Jase puts a lot of that down to luck, and a lot of it down to the shape he was in when it happened. Strong legs, a strong back and a big engine don't make you invincible, but they make you a lot harder to break. In February 2017 the gym took the name Deathproof CrossFit, because that's the whole job: build that kind of body in regular people.
It got tested again in 2023 when a dump truck ran a red light and hit him at a stop light. Three spinal fractures. He's still coaching the 5am class.
What we run
Every class is led by a coach. Warm-up, technique work, the workout of the day, then mobility. You never just get handed a whiteboard and left alone.
CrossFit classes
Constantly varied functional movement: lifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, carrying. Scaled to where you are today, every single session.
CrossFit for Beginners
Our intro track never stops rotating, so you can start any week and stay in it as long as you want. No waiting for the next on-ramp cohort.
Personal training
One on one, or bring one or two friends. Good for special needs, specific goals, or anyone who wants to get confident before jumping into a group.
Shred
A high intensity interval class built around fat loss and conditioning. Hard work, short rests, simple movements.
Rock Steady Boxing
Non-contact boxing training for people living with Parkinson's disease, coached by Dree McNear, head coach of Rock Steady Boxing South Central Indiana.
Nutrition & body comp
The Best Self Challenge and body composition analysis show you what's actually changing: fat, muscle, water and visceral fat, not just a number on a scale.
Who trains here
Pretty much everyone. People who want to lose weight or put on muscle. Ironman, marathon and Spartan racers. Folks managing high blood pressure or type II diabetes. Adaptive athletes. Seniors who want to keep getting up off the floor without help. Cops, firefighters, EMTs and military, who train with us at half price.
We also get a steady stream of drop-ins from people in town for work or training at Camp Atterbury. If you're passing through, come say hi.
